Public Relations Isn’t Just for Big Corporations

As defined Public relations is the practice of managing communications between an organization and it’s public.  Public Relations gains an organization or an individual exposure to their audience utilizing topics of interest and news that produces a third party endorsement. Commonly through speaking at conferences, working with the media, crisis communications, and social media engagement or client and employee communications.  It is something not usually considered tangible and sets it apart from advertising.  Image is your verbal and non-verbal communication translating to your Public Relation.

Concise Oxford Dictionary, image is described as “the character or reputation of a person or thing as generally perceived”. A first impression that is based on non-verbal communication goes a long way in influencing this perception and influences their decisions . Within seconds of someone meeting you, based on a single observed physical trait or behavior,a person will assume to know everything about you (as is explained in the 2003 book Social Psychology by H. Andrew Michener, John D. Delamater, and Daniel J. Myers).

When communicating your PR non-verbal sets the stage for perceptions.  Public relations and building positive successful branding for your self or business is the key to success.  Image consultants build on enhancing your Public Relationship presence and character through a variety of different tools.  Accentuating, Balancing and Camouflaging.

These are the “ABC’s of Image.” for your PR.   Your image is more than your appearance — so much of what you do and say contributes to the impressions you make. An image consultant serves in many ways as a valuable resource for your PR, helping you become more poised and polished, guiding you to your own authentic style, and instilling the sense of success and confidence that comes with knowing that your own Appearance, Behavior and Communication are beyond reproach.  You are your best PR for your, business, home or social life.

An image consultant advises men and women on colors ideally suited to them, creates a wardrobe that is stylish and represents their desired outcome (PR), selects accessories and jewelry and teaches them how to shop. Consultants also advise individual on the best hair style and color to flatter their face shape, skin tone, body structure and lifestyle as well as all of the details that go in to making the WOW statement in the PR. Working with an image consultant will build confidence and self-esteem, giving you valuable and tangible  advice while  taking pride in assisting you to become your best version of yourself to project a  positive effective Public Relation for the world to see.

An image consultant may also give advice on decorating colors for their home and office and how to make a wonderful first and lasting impression. In my years in this exciting profession I’ve had  the opportunity to build confidence and self-esteem in  clients and give them the competitive edge in their business, home and social life.

Essentials and Priorities in a Down Economy

It’s important to maintain a positive attitude, and feeling good about yourself is a main contribution.  Evidence shows that bad hair causes one to be more negative about one’s self.

Research from Marcial Losada and Barbara Frederickson  supports “Effects of Positive Attitude on Flourishing”.

Research supports:

*It takes 2.9 positive feelings, expressions, or thoughts to counter act 1 negative.

*Frederickson’s broaden-and-build theory based on a 28 day study expresses positive levels greater than 2.9:

*Reflect in positive attitudes

*Directly linked with better repertoires in relationships,

*Flexibility

*Resilience in adversity

*Greater social resources

*Optimal functioning

We feel best when we look in the mirror and like the Image that reflects back at us.  The simplest way to interject is by investing and caring in some thing we wear everyday:  Our hair!  Professional styling diminishes the “bad hair day” affect by gracefully maintaining a shape over the maturity of 4-6 week period.  Costing out a polished Coiffed style and youthful color costs less than daily Starbucks coffee and the benefits are priceless.

Bad Hair Days by Dr. Marianne LaFrance Professor of Psychology and of Women’s and Gender Studies at Yale University analyzes information on how individuals feel during a “bad hair day,” found:

* Individuals’ self-esteem increase self-doubt

*Intensify social insecurities

*Yields self-critical thoughts

The Yale study produced astonishing results:

*Lowers Self-Esteem Regarding Performance,

*Intensifying social insecurities-

Women tend to feel more disgraced, embarrassed, ashamed or self-conscious during a ‘Bad Hair Day’.

Men on the other hand, feel more nervous, less confident and are more inclined to be unsociable.

Specifically, results indicate that a ‘Bad Hair Day’ leads individuals to find more personal character flaws that go beyond their appearance

“Interestingly, both women and men are negatively affected by the phenomenon of bad hair days,” says Professor LaFrance. “Even more fascinating is our finding that individuals perceive their capabilities to be significantly lower than others when experiencing bad hair.”
We wear are hair everyday while an article of clothing range from once a week, twice a month ect…An article of clothing costs out more per month than what you wear everyday.  Your hair, good, bad or indifferent sets the Stage for the day.  Set yours for optimum success!

Feeling good about yourself everyday is a priority and essential to your broadening social skills, increasing your self-esteem and develops a positive attitude, which improves performance.  Investing in feeling good is essential for survival in the world we now live in.  Evidence supports and shows that ‘bad hair’ or mediocre hair causes one to be more negative about one’s self. Attitude changes as a response to communication of the message you see daily and hear for others for example “You look great today, did you do something?” verses “Are you feeling ok?’  Grab your positive attitude daily.  Ask the stylist to show you how to achieve results in styling daily.  Experienced and professional stylists will take the time and energy to ensure your success in maintaining your look.

The positive attitude is a winning tactic you can implement with simply obtaining the perfect style for your face shape, body structure, skin tone and lifestyle.  You’re never too young or old to learn how to look and feel good!

Color to Dye for

You may spend hours coordinating your ensembles, from your earrings to your blouse to your toenail polish. Having a killer outfit not in the right hue or shade of color will break the stylish look.

Consider this:
Is your hair color matching your skin tone? It’s essential, the right shade to Dye for will flatter and give a radiant glow to your skin tone. The wrong hue can make your complexion look washed out, sallow, drab, or muddy. The right shade will enhance your skin tone and coloring, you can rejuvenate your complexion, brighten up your best features from head to toe while radiating a glowing youthful complexion. This is key for a consistent powerful image and you wear it every day. It is the most cost effective way to enhance your appearance on a daily basis.

Use a color uncomplimentary to your eye, hair and skin tone, and people ask if you’re feeling okay or tired.

If gold compliments your skin then you would be best suited in warmer shades of color.

Bold or subdued colors in the right shade to accent your face will permeate confidence and pose.

A professional color expert will be the best investment to achieve optimum results.

Body Talk

Body language and presence speaks volumes whether you articulate your intent or not. The universal symbol of defensive is crossed arms, according to communication and negotiation experts Henry Calero and Gerard Nierenburg in their book How to Read a Person Like a Book.

If someone crosses their arms use their cue to discern your approach and style of effective communication. Engaging with someone crossing their arms while in dialog do a mental checklist to see if your body language approach or speech pattern in casing the shut down or defensive feelings. Set the goal to redirect and focus for open interactive communication. Communication is the key to success whether verbally or non-verbally. Think how many times you have disconnected from conversations and why. Change your image and credibility for redirection and optimum successful outcomes every time.

Stategies to Style & Success

Strategies to Style and Success
What is personal brand image? It’s you! Your representation of yourself is the total package, including how you dress, groom and communicate. Image speaks to the world before you even say a word. Also, pictures can make or break your image. Your image represents who you are and where you are going. Change your image and change your life!
As, Nelson Mandela once said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Everything in life starts with you. Developing your personal brand image that people will respect and admire leads to building positive relationships full of opportunities and success.
The first step in developing your personal brand image starts with identifying what you are trying to attract and what obstacles lie in your path for success. Could it be your appearance, your inner self-talk, or both? Developing your personal brand image is indeed a self-discovery and improvement process. Whether you need to overcome career, personal, or communication challenges, the solution lies within you and your internal dialogue.
Successful people set goals with time lines to achieve them. Perfect example is Jack Canfield the author of “The Success Principles”. Successful people visualize themselves achieving their goals. Achievement comes from a plan of action designed from desired goals. Life gives us exactly what we expect. It’s a balance between persistence and flexibility towards our goals, so it’s necessary for us to make clear choices and decisions. Doubt leads straight into failure. If you’ve been procrastinating from doing something, do it right away. There is no better time than the present; that’s the power you hold! Focusing on the negative can distort your judgment and paralyze your actions. Focus on goals for success! Good energy and attitude comes from a healthy and positive self-image. The better your self-image, the possibilities are endless for achieving your goals. Trust your intuition. Positive thoughts lead to abundance, which leads to success. Remember to focus on what matters most to you!

Proactive successful business professionals today view themselves as if they are a corporation and market their talents accordingly. Just as a solid, viable product will die a slow death without consistent marketing, talented contributors can be ignored, overlooked, or never fully utilized without effective self-promotion.
At work, you are your brand and your look is your logo – it will send a clear message about who you are, what you have to offer, and where you are going with your career. Decide what your message is by working with an image consultant to help you identify and clarify your intent. And, then dress to express it. Decide to put effort into choosing a wardrobe that reflects who you are and where you are going. Take control of every aspect in your life inside and out to achieve success.
You’ve often heard people refer to themselves as the total package. However, are they really the total package? When you work with DARe Salon & Image Studio, we take the guesswork out of packaging your presentation. The process first begins with a self-exploration of who you are and where you want to be. You can look the part but if you don’t act the part, you’re not the total package. And conversely, if you act the part and don’t look the part, doors will close before you. Start opening new doors today.

Colors and Confidence

Colors we surround ourselves with play an intricate part in our confidence, which precludes our happiness.  Whether choosing hair color or garment colors, skin tone and personality are the two major considerations before any choices are selected.

The theory of color is based on individual skin tone.  Warm toned or cool toned, with the rare individual being both like a chameleon.  A simple way to test which one you are is to hold a piece of gold cloth then a silver piece. With one your skin will radiate.  The other will make you look sallow.  Gold is warm; silver is cool.  An alternative is to try an orange-red and blue-red fabric. Neutrals in clothing (black, gray, brown and taupe) work for everyone.

Once you have discovered your tone, look at the color wheel. Cool colors are in the blue, green, and purple hues.  Warm colors are in the yellow, orange and red hues.  Typically these families fall in the opposing family if the underlying base is from that color family. An example would be a red-blue tone like magenta.

You’ll feel much more confident in colors that compliment your skin tone.  Personality is key in your color choices.  If a vivacious outgoing warm skin toned individual wears a subdued color — for example a flat brown hair color or a muted powdery pink blouse — this will be a confidence killer.  But, a flattering sun kissed, golden brown hair color with a hot pink garment will radiate confidence.  Eva Longoria Parker is a great example.
